Color Combos: Olive+Bark+Black

This week’s Nothing2Wear Color Crush combination is a Fall triple play of Olive Green, Bark brown and Midnight black. Although the seasonal calendar may say Fall, the climate, in certain parts of the county, do not. I’m ready to start layering sweaters, oxfords and more but doing that right now could cause spontaneous combustion. Poof! Wearing the olive green 3/4 sleeve cardigan is still a way to wear a Fall piece, in a Fall color, but I’m not on fire from wearing long sleeves and I kinda blend in with nature. 🙂

I picked up the cardigan from Target’s sale rack last year! A major $11 score but I wondered what I already had at home that I could pair it with. Its odd length and unique hue create a mini style challenge but nothing I couldn’t conquer.

Styling: Pairing the cardigan with black is an obvious choice; black pairs with anything. Believe it or not, Olive green also looks awesome with brick red, navy blue, citrus yellow, vanilla, cream, and even various lighter blues, like sky and baby blue. The cardigan’s other unique feature is its length. To give it some proportion, I styled it with a thicker bark brown belt to create a softer, more feminine silhouette. Any tank underneath will do. I also wore it with a pair of cropped trousers which extends the legs, making you look taller. You could also wear longer trousers but I think the varying lengths of each piece create visual interest and great style detail. Styling a shoe with cutout detail adds a style pop to the look. These T.J. Maxx booties are my faves of the moment.

Style Spin: I’ve worn the cardigan over a strapless dress as a way to transition it from Summer to Fall. That’s me with Target beauty expert and designer, Sonia Kashuk. Love her!

Accessorize: Darker hues need to be accented with lighter hues. I chose to layer two statement necklaces. The first is a Betsy Pittard arrowhead necklace with creams, gold and tan colors. The other is a vintage gold Faberge egg. A bold gold bracelet ties in the necklaces and the belt buckle. The statement ring and turquoise beaded bracelet complete the look.
